RESULTS:
The results of the CoCOS project are shown below;
Co-creation conceptual framework: the conceptual framework will form the basis for the online training module.Online co-creation environment: using an open source LMS platform (probably Moodle), a digital environment will be set up specifically tailored for structured, feasible co-creation by a large number of providers.
Method and resources for an F2F co-creation training: a set of educational materials will be developed for the F2F training to facilitate the professionalisation of teachers who want to start a co-creation journey.
Co-creation pilot courses implementation and evaluation: teachers who have completed the training will implement the co-creation methodology in their own courses.
Handbook on guidelines for co-creation: guidelines co-creation do's and don'ts will be developed following the co-creation trajectories started in different settings, such as those in the pilot courses.
Community-based co-creation website: A website will be maintained throughout the project to communicate the purpose, results and materials developed during the CoCOS project.
Co-creation is a hot topic in education, especially because of its promising potential to use input from students, fellow teachers and experts in the professional field to provide up-to-date course materials in a rapidly changing environment. This is particularly the case in higher and adult education, which is characterised by an increasingly diverse set of students, including those with additional degrees and previous work experience. Involving students in co-creation of course materials not only gets them actively involved in the subject, it also provides a learning opportunity for 21st-century skills such as digital knowledge/skills, multidisciplinary collaboration and self-management. Moreover, co-creation also includes input from fellow teachers from related disciplines and stakeholders in the professional field, thus increasing the diversity of perspectives offered by teaching. However, co-creation of course content often proves to be a very time-consuming process for the teacher/trainer, spending a lot of time on course management and thus reducing their focus on content.
CAUSE:
To enable co-creation, the CoCOS project will apply the mindset, methods and tools developed for open source development for co-creation of course content. We will share our experiences through a pilot "open source platforms" explicitly designed to simplify course management during course co-creation. Using so-called "management technology" used in software development, these platforms automatically keep track of what content was created by whom at what time. Moreover, they provide a hierarchical control structure, allowing the founder to retain (or delegate) editorial control over the final course.
The aim is to test this co-creation approach in a wide range of educational settings. Therefore, we chose a diverse range of partners, including partners in universities, colleges and adult education. Through these pilot courses, we will learn from each other and the partners will disseminate their experiences in their local networks.
The project will consist of a preparation, testing, evaluation and dissemination phase. Partners will be prepared for the pilot courses in a partner training, which will address the educational and technical challenges of co-creation. In addition, partners will be provided with an online co-creation environment tailored to their needs. The co-creation approach will then be evaluated during a series of pilot courses in different educational environments. Eventually, all training materials will be made freely available online
